Advertising Policy
Last updated · applies to blog.riskira.com
Riskira carries a limited amount of advertising to fund independent reporting. This page explains how it works and where the line is.
Where ads appear
Ads appear in clearly labelled slots: one in the sidebar of article pages and one between articles on archive pages. There are no ads inside article bodies, no interstitials and no pop-ups.
Labelling
Every ad slot is marked "Advertisement" or "Sponsored" in visible text. Anything that is paid for is labelled as such. Nothing that is labelled editorial has been paid for.
Separation from editorial
Advertisers do not see articles before publication, do not choose which articles their ads appear beside, and cannot request coverage. Editorial staff do not sell advertising and are not told who is buying.
What we decline
- Ads that imitate the design of Riskira content.
- Ads for products the editorial team has found to be misleading in the course of reporting.
- Behaviourally targeted advertising of any kind. Ads are contextual to the page, not to the reader.
Sponsored content
We do not publish sponsored articles. A company may sponsor a newsletter issue; the sponsorship is disclosed at the top of the issue and the sponsor has no input into its content.
Reader controls
Readers who do not wish to see advertising can support the publication through a paid subscription, which removes all ad slots.
Contact
Questions about advertising standards can be raised through the contact page. Advertising enquiries are handled separately from editorial and never reach the editorial team.
